For Alba, the right support is making therapy a little easier and progress possible.
When Alba was just six months old, her family received life-changing news.
Alba had been diagnosed with bilateral cerebral palsy, global developmental delay and several other complex health conditions. Her parents suddenly found themselves navigating appointments, therapies and equipment needs while adjusting to what the future might look like for their young family.
Living in regional Tasmania added another challenge, with much of their family support interstate.
In 2025, Variety Tasmania was able to help through the Variety Freya Fund, providing emergency financial support during the difficult months following Alba's diagnosis.
The grant helped ease some of the immediate pressures on the family as they began accessing the equipment, services and support Alba needed.
A year later, Variety was proud to support Alba once again. Through a Variety Individual Grant, Alba received an iPad to use while in her specialised standing frame. During trials, her therapists discovered that music and familiar programs helped keep Alba engaged and happy in the frame, allowing her to tolerate standing for longer periods and supporting her therapy and development goals.
The impact was almost immediate. Something as familiar as watching a favourite program or listening to music is now helping make Alba's therapy more engaging, while supporting her participation, learning and communication as she continues to grow and develop.
